Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1870, ovoid jug with tooled accents to shoulder and spout, brush-decorated with an undulating vine above a script "2" flanked by heavy striping. Two freehand stripes at base. A well-decorated example using classic Western Pennsylvania design elements. Excellent condition with some minor in-the-firing surface flaws and minor staining, the base with a minor chip and shallow 1 1/4" in-the-firing contact mark. H 14 1/2".
