One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "W. ROBERTS. BINGHAMTON NY," circa 1870, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a bird with spotted body and fan-shaped tail, perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Two small, in-the-making chips to top of spout. A small in-the-making gouge mark near base on side of jug, which is glazed over. A glazed-over base chip with a 1 1/4" vertical in-the-firing line ascending from it. Some light surface staining. Two tiny in-the-firing pings to decoration. H 11".
