Two-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Chicken Decoration, Stamped "WEST TROY / POTTERY," NY State origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a chicken on stylized ground with shrubs. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Includes salt-glazed stoneware lid. Jar in very nice condition with small chips to interior of rim, a tiny nick to inner rim for lid, and a small in-the-firing iron ping to interior base. Lid in excellent condition with staining to surface and a black marker notation on underside. H 11 5/8".
