Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "E & L P NORTON / BENNINGTON VT:," circa 1870, ovoid form with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed cluster of leaves accented with dotted trails. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark and capacity mark. Includes Albany-slip-glazed lid and old wooden dasher. Very nice condition with several minor chips to inner rim for lid and staining to surface. Lid in excellent, essentially as-made condition. H (excluding lid and dasher) 15".
