Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "NORTON & FENTON, / East Bennington, Vt," circa 1845, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a finely-brushed floral motif with scrolled stamens. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A wide, inverted T-shaped crack from rim on reverse. A 3 3/4" Y-shaped line to side of churn, not visible on interior. A 6" line to shoulder under one handle. A 2" hairline from rim on front. A minor 2" Y-shaped surface line to right of decoration, not visible on interior. Some staining to surface. A recessed in-the-firing contact mark to front. Two small rim chips. Small spots of old green paint to surface. H 18 1/8".
