One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1855, squat-shaped, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with an abstract slip-trailed flowering plant bearing two large blossoms and scrolled details. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Chipping around interior of rim and inner rim for lid. One handle with a minor chip and minuscule nick. A minor chip and tiny nick to base of jar. Some very short, in-the-firing lines at base on reverse. A 1 3/8" in-the-firing iron ping on reverse, which is glazed over. H 10".
