Three-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "BURGER & LANG, / ROCHESTER N.Y.," circa 1868-1877, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed tulip plant including striped details to the blossom petals and leaves. Slip-trailed "3" above. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Jar in excellent condition with a 1 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse and a brown drip of staining to front midsection. What appears to be a crack to the left of the decoration is actually only a thin stripe of staining. Edge of lid with a chip, small flake, and minor piece of adhered clay. Additionally, some minor in-the-firing fissures to top of lid. H (excluding lid) 14".
