Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration and 1886 Date, Stamped "J. BURGER, JR. / ROCHESTER N.Y.," 1886, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, tall collar, and applied lug handles, featuring a brushed and slip-trailed leaf motif below the date, "1886." Slip-trailed "2" above. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Heavy flaking to interior. A 2" spider line to one handle. A small chip and minor nick to opposite handle. A rim chip on reverse. Some staining to surface. H 11 7/8".
