Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Bird and Floral Motif, Stamped "W.H. FARRAR & Co. / GEDDES.N.Y.," circa 1860, cylindrical jug with semi-rounded spout, featuring a very large brushed and slip-trailed design of a bird standing atop a stylized mound, facing two blossoming daisies. Solid cobalt highlights to bird's wing and flower petals, heavy striping throughout bird's body, and intricate undulating vine decoration to ground below. Slip-trailed "3" to right of bird. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Fry to cobalt. Spout with a 1 1/4" glazed-over flake to exterior, a small glazed-over chip to exterior, two minor nicks to exterior, and two chips to its interior edge. A minor 3/4" line to base of handle. Staining throughout. H 16".
