Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "N CLARK JR / ATHENS NY," circa 1860, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large design of a crested bird with spotted wing and long tail, perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Surface staining. A 1 1/8" hairline from rim on front. A 1 3/8" hairline from rim on reverse. Nicks and wear to interior of rim. Two nicks to exterior of rim. A minor chip to one handle. H 10 1/2".
