Rare Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Man-in-the-Moon Decoration, Stamped "E.W. FARRINGTON / ELMIRA . N.Y.," circa 1887-1893, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a long-nosed face in profile extending from a crescent-shaped stem with leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Two adjacent reglued pieces on side/reverse of crock, measuring a total of 10 3/4" x 4 7/8". A 4 1/4" X-shaped line to shoulder on front, not visible on interior. A 4 1/2" Y-shaped line to far right side of crock's front, not visible on interior. A 1 1/4" surface line to far right side of crock's front, not visible on interior. A faint 3" Y-shaped line on underside, not visible on interior. Staining and traces of old paint to surface. H 10 3/4".
