Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "F.T. WRIGHT & SON / TAUNTON MASS," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stump surrounded by shrubs. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Desirable motif and size. A 2 1/4" crack on underside continuing 3" up right side of crock's front. Staining to surface. A minor chip to interior of rim H 7 1/4".
