Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jars, Western PA origin, circa 1880, tapering jars with semi-rounded "wax sealer" rims, each brush-decorated with a graduated swag motif between freehand stripes. Each include an old tin canning lid. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. Taller with chips to interior of rim, minor chips to inner wax sealer rim, a 1 1/8" diagonal in-the-firing fissure at base, and a small chip to underside at edge. Shorter with some fry to cobalt, small chips to inner wax sealer rim, and minor staining to surface. H (of taller) 8 1/2".
