Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jars, Stenciled "J.M. HARDEN / PALATINE, W.VA," circa 1875, both of cylindrical form featuring different J.M. Harden maker's stenciling, the smaller a canning jar with "wax sealer" rim. Smaller with salt residue and a small in-the-firing chip to front, the underside with a small in-the-firing bloated spots, small in-the-firing chips, and minor in-the-firing surface fissures. Larger jar in excellent, essentially as-made condition with some in-the-firing mottling to surface, a small piece of adhered clay near base on reverse, minor surface wear, and two smooth in-the-firing contact marks at base. H (of smaller) 8 7/8".
