One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG," circa 1880, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, applied clay tabs with wood-and-wire bail handle, and applied handle at base on reverse, decorated on the reverse with an elaborate stenciled design, on the front with freehand floral decoration, and cobalt accents at the tabs at the shoulder. Heavy chipping to spout. Minor chips to rim. Some fry to cobalt, particularly in floral decoration. H 8 3/4".
