Extremely Rare Stoneware Filter with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "WILLIAM LINTON'S / POTTERY AND SALESROOM / Corner of Lexington and Pine Streets, / BALTIMORE, MD," circa 1860, short, wide form with curved body, footed base, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with brushed triple-stemmed floral motifs flanking the large maker's mark of William Linton. Reverse with undulating stem bearing leaves and eight flowers. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. One of only a few marked examples of Linton stoneware known and the only filter from his shop that we are aware of. A long perforated tube, typical to this form, is missing on the underside, leaving behind a ring where it once adhered to the rest of the vessel. Significant crazing throughout. A few chips to interior of rim. Diam. 12" ; H 7 1/2".
