Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, brush-decorated with a tulip plant bearing two blossoms and a smaller flower composed of graduated spots. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Loss to spout with crosshatching carved into loss and traces of old restoration surrounding it. A small filled and painted chip to spout. Restoration to bottom third of handle. Some surface wear and staining. Spots of fry to cobalt. A chip to underside at edge. H 13 1/2".
