Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Fish Planter, Signed "Chester Hewell," Gillsville, GA, late 20th century, wheel-thrown and hand-modeled planter in the form of a fish with applied fins, bulging eyes, and impressed scales, fashioned with a carved opening in the back and thrown opening in the mouth. Surface covered in a mottled brown alkaline glaze. Underside incised with Chester Hewell signature. Provenance: Carl and Marian Mullis Collection; On long-term loan to Colonial Williamsburg, 2019 to 2023. Excellent condition. L 13 1/2".
