Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware #9 Face Jug, Signed "JOHN MEADERS / CLEVELAND / GA.," late 20th century, wheel-thrown, ovoid jug with hand-modeled and applied clay face including white clay eyes with cobalt pupils, eyebrows, ears, hollow Roman nose, and open mouth with white clay teeth. Depressions in the jug give structure to the face. Surface covered in a mottled green alkaline glaze. Underside incised with John Meaders signature along with "#9" and the number "18" above a "2" within a rectangle. Provenance: Carl and Marian Mullis Collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 9 1/2".
