One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Slip-Trailed Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN," Alexandria, VA origin, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and arched tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a slip-trailed design of draped chain links and stylized tassels. Impressed with B.C. Milburn maker's mark under one handle. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced Virginia collection. An approximately 5 1/4" thin vertical crack below handle. An in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder. A small, shallow chip to one handle. Minor base chipping. H 9 1/2".
