Rare Redware Charger with Copper Slip Decoration, Norwalk, CT origin, probably Absalom Day, early 19th century, with coggled edge, the interior decorated in green copper slip with four large foliate devices separated by a wavy cross pattern, all under a clear lead glaze. The use of copper dates this work to an earlier period than most surviving examples of Norwalk slipware. The color and design are related to a loaf dish on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, inscribed "AD," and attributed to Absalom Day. A few rim chips. A minor 1/2" in-the-firing fissure from rim. Some surface wear to lead glaze on interior, but no flakes. Diam. 14".
