Rare Copper-Decorated Redware Urn with Applied Wing Handles, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA origin, circa 1890, ovoid form with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied molded handles in the form of wings; brush-decorated in lead-and-copper glaze on the front and reverse with a swag-and-hanging-flower motif, applied over whitish slip. Original drain hole in interior base. The outdoor use of such pieces typically resulted in a damaged vessel. Loss to rim. Rim and base chips. Significant surface flakes. A faint 1" line from rim. H 14 5/8".
