Stoneware Butter Crock with Cobalt Swag Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, wide, cylindrical form with squared rim and extruded lug handles, the surface coated in a whitish slip and decorated with three groups of brushed swags on the front and reverse. Highlights to handle terminals. Impressed under one handle with John Bell maker's mark. A large Y-shaped hairline across underside, forming an approximately 2" tall x 7" long Y-shaped line on one side of crock. A minor in-the-firing nick to bottom edge of rim. H 6 1/8" ; Diam. 8 1/2".
