Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, the surface dipped in a whitish slip and decorated on the front and reverse with a spotted tulip motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Very nice condition. A very faint 5" Y-shaped surface line to midsection on one side, not visible on interior and likely in-the-firing. A 1" in-the-firing chip to top of rim, which is lightly glazed-over. A small in-the-firing surface chip near midsection on reverse. Some light staining. H 11".
