Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Pomeroy, OH Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1880, tapered jar with semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "J.A. FRANZ. / GROCERIES. / VEGETABLES, / FLOUR. CANDIES. MEAT / WINES. LIQUORS. TOBACCO, / & CIGARS. / FRONT ST. / POMEROY O." Fitted with old wire bail handle. No modifications were made to the jar to secure the handle. A 1 3/4" Y-shaped line on underside. A few minor nicks to interior and inner wax sealer rim. Some in-the-making chipping to exterior of rim. Staining to reverse. Some old silver paint residue to front. H 8".
