Fine Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Crock with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "Eagle Pottery." and "JAS. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO, / PA.," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring a stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle, clutching a banner inscribed, "Eagle Pottery." Base with bold-faced stenciled "3" flanked by dashes. Freehand stripes below rim and at base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A Y-shaped crack on front, measuring approximately 8 1/2" at base, part of which extends approximately 5 1/4" up front. One handle with some edge wear and a few very minor nicks. Some light surface wear and light staining. H 11 7/8".
