One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Jackson Courthouse, WV Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "JAMES M. POLING . / DEALER IN / DRY GOODS & / GENERAL / MERCHANDISE / JACKSON C.H. W. VA." Freehand stripe decoration above and below. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. A chip to interior of rim. Some mottling to clay on shoulder area on reverse and sides. A 1 3/8" vertical line at base on front. H 10 1/4".
