Fine Six-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Churn with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "EXCELSIOR POTTERY" and "A.P. Donaghho, / Parkersburg W.V," circa 1880, ovoid churn with flared collar and applied lug handles, decorated with a stenciled design of a spread-winged Federal eagle clutching arrows in one talon and carrying a banner in its beak, inscribed "Excelsior Pottery." Stenciled with A.P. Donaghho maker's mark above and a stenciled "6" within a geometric border below. A 2" piece of adhered clay on top of rim. One handle with a shallow chip and an in-the-firing iron ping including some clay residue. Minor surface wear. H 17 1/4".
