Fine Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Freehand Decoration, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1870, semi-ovoid jar with incised banding to midsection, tooled shoulder, and semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated with an undulating tulip vine above a script "2" flanked by three freehand dashes. Two freehand stripes to shoulder, a single stripe to midsection, and three stripes at base. Excellent top-to-bottom decoration with good color. A large area of restoration to rim on much of jar's front extending partway onto rim on side of jar. A long Y-shaped crack at base on front, extending a short distance onto underside, where it forms a long semi-circular crack around bottom edge. H 11 1/2".
