Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded spout, brush-decorated with a detailed wreath surrounding a freehand "3." Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Staining to surface. Otherwise essentially as-made condition with the following in-the-firing flaws: a recessed in-the-firing contact mark below handle, small piece of adhered clay to left side of jug, and a small in-the-firing chip to base of handle. H 15 1/2".
