Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG," PA origin, circa 1870, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, brush-decorated with a large design of a tulip hanging from a leafy stem. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Includes wooden stopper. Very nice condition with some unglazed areas to surface, a small spot of fry to cobalt, light staining, and some light exfoliation to underside. What appear to be two short vertical lines in the neck are actually scratches in the clay created prior to the firing. H 16".
