Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and tapered spout, brush-decorated with a large tulip plant bearing two blossoms and long leafy stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. A 5/8" spout chip and minor spout chip. Some in-the-firing clay residue to side of jug. An in-the-firing contact mark to top of handle and small piece of adhered clay at upper handle terminal. Very minor staining. H 16".
