Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "WEIMER & BRO," Snydertown, PA, circa 1868-1872, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-squared rim, brush-decorated with two diagonal tulip motifs, one emanating from a stem with graduated leaves. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. One of only two signed pieces by this Northumberland County, Pennsylvania pottery that we have ever offered. Reverse base with two pieces of adhered clay, an in-the-firing base chip, and a post-firing base chip. Some water glass staining to surface, primarily to reverse. H 10 5/8".
