Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with tapered spout, brush-decorated with unusual design of a floral spray featuring four oval buds interspersed with leafy stems. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Includes wooden stopper. Very nice condition. A 2 1/2" vertical line on reverse. In-the-firing contact marks to right side. Minor chipping to base. Minor surface wear. H 13 3/4".
