One-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware "Buggy" Jug, Stamped "J.M. YOW / ERECT. NC," late 19th century, squat-shaped jug with raised spout molding and ribbed strap handle, the surface covered in a mottled salt glaze. Appealing and unusual form, difficult to tip over, often described as designed for use on a buggy. Excellent condition with the following minor flaws: a minor chip to molding at base of spout, an in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder, a small in-the-firing surface chip near base on reverse, a small in-the-firing base chip, and minor base nicks. H 10 1/2".
