Five-Gallon Salt-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "E.S. CRAVEN.," Randolph County, NC, circa 1855, ovoid jar with heavily-coggled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and thin lug handles with depressed terminals, the surface covered in a salt glaze with heavy runs to rim area. Rim has original piercings formed prior to firing to allow for a lid with closure. Jar includes later wooden lid and wooden piece for closure. Four restored rim chips, which have started to separate from the jar. A horizontal line extending partway around base. A 3 1/4" diagonal line to midsection. A 1 1/4" flake to edge of one handle. H 16".
