Rare Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Flask with Incised Bird and Humorous Inscription, American, possibly OH, circa 1830, flattened form with tooled shoulder, the surface dipped in Albany slip and decorated on one side with an incised design of a crested bird perched on a looping flourish. The date, "1776," was carved into the bird's belly at some point after the firing. Reverse incised, "Tak Sum / this is what / kild dad," above a scalloped flourish. Flask is heavy in weight and composed of light-gray clay. Excellent form and wonderful incising. Several small spout chips. The carved date, "1776," was executed sometime after the flask was fired. H 5 3/4".
