Scarce Glazed Stoneware Face Jug with Rock Eyes and Teeth, attributed to Casey Meaders (1881-1945), GA or NC origin, first quarter 20th century, squat-shaped, cylindrical jug with applied facial features including off-set rock eyes with eyebrows and incised eyelashes, C-scroll ears, a long nose with pierced nostrils, and an open mouth with rock teeth. Incised hair to shoulder. Surface covered in brown Albany slip glaze. Stylistically related to later alkaline-glazed pieces by Cleveland, Georgia, master potter, Cheever Meaders (1887-1967). Loss to one eyebrow. Two applied rock teeth missing. A small chip to bottom edge of nose. Wear to one ear. Small spots of wear to base and other minor wear. A small in-the-making scratch below one eye and a small area of surface wear to shoulder. H 7".
