Rare Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar or Churn with Iron-Oxide Decoration, attributed to John Davis Leopard or possibly Ussery Family, Bacon Level, Randolph County, AL, circa 1845, ovoid form with flared collar and arched tab handles, decorated around the shoulder with large iron-oxide splotches against a green alkaline-glazed ground. Wear to interior base suggests this vessel was used as a churn. Desirable glaze treatment. Old restoration to a 3 3/4" x 1 1/2" section of rim. A 1 3/4" hairline to collar. Minor chipping around base. Some light wear around midsection. *NOTE: The condition of this lot has been updated to include a 7/8" filled and partially colored chip to one handle. H 14".
