Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to the Carver & Wightman Pottery, Edinburg, VA, circa 1850-1865, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and squared rim, brush-decorated around the body with three tulip motifs. Made at the shop of pottery owners Hiram Carver and William Wightman in Edinburg, Shenandoah County, Virginia. Essentially as-made condition. A long, vertical in-the-firing surface crack on interior, visible as recessed area and a 5/8" line on exterior. Some short, in-the-firing surface lines to base area, which are glazed and not visible on interior. H 9 1/2".
