Five-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "A. CONRAD. / NEW / GENEVA . PA.," circa 1876, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with stenciled wheat motifs above A. Conrad maker's stenciling. Stenciled floral motifs flank the maker's stenciling. Shoulder with stenciled "5" flanked by stenciled tulip blossoms. Freehand stripe below rim. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. A 9" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim to right of decoration. Two small, in-the-firing pings to shoulder. A thin, shallow 3" in-the-firing contact mark to right side of jar. Some in-the-making smudging to stenciling. Underside with a few salt drips and a 3/4" in-the-firing ping near edge. Reverse with an 11" Y-shaped crack extending from base to shoulder. H 16 1/4".
