Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "Star Pottery," Hamilton and Jones, Greensboro, PA, circa 1875, tapering jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring a stenciled design of a Federal eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch in its talons, carrying a banner in its beak, inscribed "Star Pottery." Freehand stripe decoration above and below. Excellent condition with a miniscule nick to inner wax sealer rim, a minor in-the-firing surface chip to base, an in-the-firing burn to right side of front, and minor staining. H 9 3/4".
