Unusual Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Western PA or OH origin, circa 1885, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a large, stylized stenciled design of a flower blossom or star below a stenciled "2" within a rope border. Essentially as-made condition with in-the-firing contact marks to surface, which include an in-the-firing flake to front and pieces of adhered clay to reverse. In-the-firing chipping to underside at edge. H 11 1/2".
