Fine Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug with Stenciled Federal Eagle Motif, Stenciled "T.F. REPPERT. / GREENSBORO, / PA.," circa 1880, ovoid jug with tooled spout, decorated with a stenciled design of a spread-winged eagle with shield across its chest, clutching an arrow in each talon, applied between the stenciled words of the maker's mark. Decorated above with a freehand "2" with flourishes. Freehand stripes to shoulder and base. Cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal. A small spout chip. Some areas of light wear to surface and cobalt. An in-the-firing 3/4" chip to underside at edge, beside a small in-the-firing chip. Typical in-the-firing stacker marks. H 14 1/2".
