Rare Five-Gallon Boston, MA Stoneware Advertising Crock, Inscribed "C.E. Mory," attributed to Satterlee & Mory, Fort Edward, NY origin, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a curving slip-trailed line surround the name, "C.E. Mory," for a member of the family of Fort Edward pottery owner, Michael Mory. Impressed above with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "A.B. WHEELER & CO; / 69 Broad Street, / BOSTON, MASS." A thin 4" crack from rim on front. A flake to five-gallon capacity mark, partially touched up with blue paint. Two small surface flakes to rim and a small surface flake below rim on front. Some minor exfoliation to shoulder on reverse. Some small flakes to handles and light wear to edge of one handle. Some minor staining to exterior and water glass staining to interior. H 12 1/2".
