Extremely Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Slip-Trailed Cobalt Deer Decoration, Stamped "EVAN R. JONES / PITTSTON, PA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a standing deer atop a stylized ground. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Professional restoration to reverse. Professional restoration to left side of jar below handle. A professionally-restored crack across underside. A few small chips to interior of rim. Some minor bubbling to cobalt. H 11 1/4".
