Very Rare Slip-Decorated Redware Pitcher, Hagerstown, MD origin, possibly Peter or John Bell, first quarter 19th century, ovoid pitcher with footed base and tooled rim, the lead-glazed surface dipped in streaky yellowish slip and decorated with horizontal floral motifs consisting of brushed copper-slip blossoms emanating from slip-trailed manganese-slip stems. Exceptional decoration for this form. Poorly-restored handle. Some restoration to rim. A few short, thin cracks from rim. Tight lines to base extending to underside. Minor wear to lower handle terminal. H 9".
