Exceptional Salt-Glazed Stoneware Figure of a Pig with Profuse Cobalt Spot Decoration, Monmouth Pottery, Monmouth, IL, late 19th century, molded figure of a standing pig with carved hooves, incised nostrils, and openwork tail, the body and underside heavily-decorated with cobalt spots and highlights under a clear salt glaze. Hollow interior with original vent hole in underside. Among the most brilliantly-decorated stoneware pigs that we have seen, significantly rarer than the Albany-slip-glazed pigs produced by this well-known Midwestern pottery. Losses to ears. A chip to one foot. One rear leg reglued. L 7 1/2".
