One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "I V MACHETT," Cornwall, NY, circa 1859-1867, well-potted, ovoid jar with narrow base, tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a conjoined leaf motif. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Literature: Illustrated in Ketchum, American Stoneware, p. 83. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a tiny in-the-making base nick. H 8 1/8".
