Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON & CO. / GREENSBORO.PA.," circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a stenciled design of a Federal eagle holding a banner inscribed "JAS. HAMILTON / & CO." Stenciled "GREENSBORO.PA." below. Freehand stripe decoration to shoulder and base. Base with stenciled "4" flanked by stenciled floral devices. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Some wear to cobalt. Staining to surface. Jar is out-of-round. H 14 3/4".
